It's been a hectic two weeks for Naledge and Kidz In The Hall. Their infamous Phoenix incident is all over the internet, with Naledge's mugshot popping up on blogs and websites. After dealing with the legal side of things, Naledge laid low in the studio before hitting the road for the New York date of Rock The Bells. Here he checks back in with RubyHornet to give us the scoop on RTB, and separate the real from false about the Bobby Fresh show that resulted in a night in jail, and a trip to the hospital for Double 0.
We did our first show in FOREVER in NYC at Rock The Bells last weekend. It felt good to get back to performing because of all the bullshit Double O and I have had to deal with in the past 7-10 days due to the nonsense that occurred while we were in Arizona for the Bobby Fresh fashion show. I mean, I'm sure that by now most of you have heard some of the details and particulars of this incident through the various news outlets, blogs, and sites that posted a story. I am going to say here though, that much of what is being reported is wrong. The fucked up thing is that I can't really FULLY speak on it in the way I would like to until all of the legal stuff is taken care of properly, what I will say is that I feel as though we were grandly mistreated as artists. We were brought in to do a performance at this club, and we essentially brought a lot of the crowd into the venue that night. I think that unnecessary force was used on Double O and that the incident could have been more than prevented. In fact, the security should have been PROTECTING us from the many drunk patrons at the club who were literally pushing their way into our VIP booth to take pictures. Honestly, I had a bad vibe about the show the minute I saw a fight happen before one of the opening acts performed, but I went along with it to fulfill our contract and was hoping for the best.
Anyways...Rock The Bells NYC was probably the greatest Hip Hop show I have personally seen or been apart of. Aside from the normal acts on the bill, it seemed everyone had surprises for their set. De La Soul brought out Biz Markie and Black Sheep, Red and Meth brought out EPMD, Keith Murray and Slick Rick. A Tribe Called Quest brought out M.O.P. and Busta Rhymes, and Nas brought out Jay-Z and Beyonce for his set. It was also dope for us to build with some of the more 'alternative' acts like Spank Rock and Santogold. And to top it off, Afrikka Bambataa also was there as the father of Hip Hop. This show was exactly as crazy as it sounds. Our set was live, and it was great to get love from the NYC crowd and hear the love and concern that many of the people had for us. It was overall a fun night.
I have been laying low for the past 4 days in Chicago and NYC. Most of my time’s been spent recording and just plain relaxing. It felt good to actually eat some Harold's and go hang out on Michigan Ave again. I also got to attend (and perform at) my boy Mo Billionaire's birthday party..fun fun times..it seems everyone got a huge kick out of seeing my mugshot on the internet...lol.
Tomorrow I leave for LA in order to do the next Rock The Bells date as well as shoot our new video with Estelle. I am super excited about going back to LA because that is technically where our group was formed, where we lived for 2 years and it was also where we recorded our first album. LA is great because of the weather, and I am sure there will be even more surprises at this Rock the Bells show being that LA is where the festival originated...I am going to get some Z's because I'm still kind of reeling from partying last night at this bar called the Corkscrew in New Jersey…
Naledge: J Ronin Freestyle
Lastly, I want to thank all people who sent me messages and put me and Double O in their prayers after hearing about the incident...Super duper shout out to Killer Mike and Q-Tip for giving me some game and perspective on this industry shit when I needed some advice....paz.
